Marching Hawks Week of October 12 Schedule

This week, the Marching Hawks are back to work preparing for their next competition at Woodgrove High School on Saturday, October 17th. While there’s no home football game this Friday, the band will rehearse Friday from 3:15pm to 5:00pm.

There are still a few volunteer opportunities available for the competition. Please check SignUpGenius to see what roles are still open and sign up for the role that interests you. If you can’t volunteer but still want to see the Dare to Dream show, come out to the Woodgrove Classic at 5:00pm on Saturday. After this weekend, there’s only one more opportunity to see the students perform this show in competition.

Woodgrove Classic Schedule, Saturday October 17

The Woodgrove Classic is at Woodgrove High School, 36811 Allder School Rd, Purcellville, VA 20132. The Marching Hawks perform Dare to Dream at 5:00pm.

• 9:30am - Students arrive; move all equipment to stadium

• 10:00am - Rehearsal in stadium

• 12:00pm - Rehearsal ends, load truck, change into uniforms, eat lunch

• 2:00pm - Load buses, depart Hayfield Secondary School

• 3:15pm - Arrive, Woodgrove HS

• 4:00pm - Warm-Up Time (Warm-Up Area B)

• 5:00pm - PERFORMANCE TIME: Dare to Dream

Following our performance, we will stay in uniform and move into the bleachers to watch the remaining two performances in our group, then awards for Groups 1-4. After awards, we will go back to the buses to change, then back into the stadium for the remainder of the show.

• 8:45pm - Move back to buses; depart Woodgrove HS

• 10:00pm - Arrive at Hayfield, unload equipment, store uniforms, clean areas

• 10:30pm - Dismissal

All students are expected to stay until dismissal to ensure all equipment and uniforms are properly stored.

What to Bring

• All uniform items: 2026 Marching Hawks T-Shirt, Drillmasters/Guard Shoes, LONG black socks, shorts to wear under uniform for a quick change after our performance, hair products for students with long hair

• Lunch to eat after morning rehearsal; students are not permitted to leave the Hayfield campus after morning rehearsal

• Refillable water bottles

• Money for concessions at the event after our performance

The Marching Hawks had another successful outing on Saturday! The band earned second place in Group V-A competition at the USBands Regional Marching Contest in Annapolis, Maryland, earning caption awards for best music and best color guard! We are especially thankful for the band family volunteers who helped throughout the day, as well as those who helped the band move inside due to the weather at last Friday’s football game.

The Marching Hawks, joined by eighth graders, play in the stands as the Hayfield Hawks football team hosts the Edison Eagles on September 25, 2026. Check out the gallery for more photos from the game.

This week includes the first concert band performance of the year on Tuesday at 7 PM, a home football game Friday night, and the second marching contest at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday, October 3. Friday, October 2 – Home Football vs. West Potomac HS

• 3:15-5:30 PM – At any time, Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion students can go to the Orchestra room to have their band portraits taken. Guard will do theirs in uniform on Saturday.

• 4:30 PM – Dinner, Change into uniforms

• 5:30 PM – Warm-Up in Lot

• 7:00 PM – Game Starts

• 8:15 PM (approx.) – Halftime performance of Dare to Dream

• 10:00 PM (approx.) – Game ends, return to band room, store all equipment and uniforms

• 10:30 PM (approx.) – Dismissal

USBands Regional Marching Contest, Saturday, October 3

This contest is at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium located at 550 Taylor Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401. Parking at the USBands Annapolis show on Saturday is PAID parking. If you are coming to spectate, or driving yourself as a volunteer, it is highly recommended that you pre-purchase parking online. Also, note that the stadium utilizes a clear bag policy.

8:00 AM - Students arrive at Hayfield Secondary, load truck, change into uniforms

10:00 AM - Load buses, depart Hayfield Secondary School

11:30 AM - Arrive, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

12:18 PM - Warm-Up Time

1:25 PM - PERFORMANCE TIME: Dare to Dream!

Following our performance, we will go back to the buses quickly to change, then head back into the stadium to watch the remaining performances.

2:25 PM - Exhibition performance from the Towson University Marching Band

2:40 PM - A-Class Awards Ceremony

Fall Concert Tonight, Tuesday, Sep. 29 at 7 PM

Join us tonight, September 29, 2026 at 7 PM, for the Hayfield Bands’ fall concert at the Hayfield Secondary School auditorium. The Hayfield Symphonic Band, Hayfield Wind Ensemble, and the Wind Ensemble Percussion Section will perform. The concert features works by Hoeffle, Powell, Carrick, and a moving performance of Omar Thomas’s Shenandoah.

The performance is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary.

Finally, Band Volunteer Roles that are Indoors!

If you prefer volunteer roles that are indoors, we have an opportunity for you! On Monday, September 28, Hayfield Secondary hosts the North Central Senior Regional Orchestra wind and percussion auditions. Hayfield band students frequently earn spots in this prestigious group. The Hayfield Band Boosters are assisting with the auditions over two short shifts. The shifts run 3:00 to 6:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:30 PM.

• Audition registration assistants will partner with band students to check in students as they arrive.

• Director hospitality assistants will help set up and maintain the director hospitality area, including food and beverages for directors and staff working at the audition.
